Things that you may struggle to understand – Questions answered about Panic Anixety Disorder

“Why can’t you just PUSH THROUGH IT?”
1.       “If somebody told me that there was a suitcase filled with a billion dollars with my name on it, in Montauk and all I had to do was drive there and get it…I couldn’t. I just couldn’t.”  Some days, this is exactly how it feels. Some days we may hold more power than we do on others. You may not understand how one day we may be able to do things/function with little incidents… or even have a panic attack and recover quickly…and the next we can’t. Every day on the road to healing is different. You must understand this if you want to be a supporter. While seeing someone fall back for a day or so may really suck from the outside, if you see them fight their way back up after—realize that! The road to recovery may be slow and never final, but we will learn to cope. Give positive energy towards that!

“People who have anxiety problems are SELFISH and are always worrying about THEMSELVES!”
2.       There are more emotions and sensations than you can even imagine going on inside a person who deals with this disorder (and many like it!). If the person cares about getting better, or helping you understand how they can get better…they are going to share this with you. It may seem that things are “all about them” and the focus is “on them” a lot. Believe me, that is not how they mean for it to come out. Nor is it part of an ego issue…most of the time they wouldn’t want the attention on them. However, having this and knowing others that suffer, we always seem to be trying to get other people to understand. It is almost like screaming underwater to some people…and let me tell you; if I did not have it, I don’t know if I could understand it either.  You almost have to put yourself into a deep deep part of your mind, and try to feel exactly what that person feels by actually BELIEVING them. Imagine a knife being held to your child’s throat, waking up and your house is on fire and there is no way out…that feeling of doom and fear and adrenaline all in one that makes you act totally out of hand. That is how someone with panic disorder may feel just doing something you deem part of your “everyday routine”. There is a filing cabinet in our brain which stores little pieces of information from every little event in life. When something reminds the brain of it, it will pull the little file out, maybe it is something we wore one day where something bad happened, or a place that we panicked…that tells the brain that this item or person is DANGEROUS. We need to trick it to NOT believe that, and to STOP right there at the stage of sensing something so it does not progress during the day and become a panic attack. Some days, this is able to be done, some days, it isn’t.  To be a safe person or an active supporter for this person, is not easy. But if you agree to be this person to help, you must realize that at times, they may need the extra support...and try not to take things to heart. They come to you for a reason.

3. "The only cure for this is.."
It is unfair to say a person may need the same exact treatment as another. What may work for someone, will not nessicarily work for another. Symptoms may be identically ...most people with disorders like panic disorder can really identify the same feelings with each other...but treatment by medication may work for one while cognitive behavior therapy may work for another. Someone else may have needed both ! You do what is right for you. For some, cbt and exposure therapy will train their brain to let go, get used to sensations, which in turn will make them more calm and powerful. Others, may train their brains with medication to numb these feelings. Of course medication may be faster acting...but in my personal opinion, if I can work through it without harmful chemicals/ brain numbing agents that may cause me to lose memories completely...I will take that route. Even if it may be ten times harder, take ten times longer, and progress may come ten times slower...if there is progress at all..guess what... It is still progress! And it should be looked at as progress. Recognizing progress of a person who is trying to cope and beat this, is a huge antidote to falling further back. You will make them believe in themselves. The positive mood and energy that you give to them will add to theirs and positive feelings help healing while negative feelings delay it. Being a cancer (a double cancer, actually) my intuition and feelings of my own and other peoples emotions around me, are stronger than most people. I will feed off good vibes! I think most people will agree with that, though :)
An example of exposure therapy is: I could not swallow pills my whole life. One day I said. Screw these feelings. I need to do this. I worked up from small bitty tablets to huge fish oil and multivitamin pills that I take daily now. I may have anxiety as i open the lid, and may have to hold onto something like a crazy person as it goes down my throat as I get huge surges of panic, but guess what? I can do it! And that feeling will go away after a while of exposing myself to the thing that provokes that emotion. I just needed to be ready to do it, nobody forced it upon me, which is why I didn't cower away from it due to pressure, and was able to beat it myself.

4.  Good days and bad days.

We know how hard it is for someone who cares to see us fall back on a day . Nobody wants to see that happen to someone they love. It's easy to become frustrated, thinking you are not helping the person...or maybe even mad at them...assuming they were just lazy and gave up. This is only human. Being human means having emotions. Just know that they would not come to you if you were not helping them. It is not a behavior issue like maybe a child receiving a lollipop after being good at the doctor and behaving well next time because of that...remember this. They are not disobeying or falling back due to a behavior issue. Some people treat it that way and use punishment...as if all the emotions and panic from that day isn't enough for that person, they're punished for something they had no control over. I see this happen to children who have anxiety all the time. It happened to me before I knew what my problem was in school. I was terrified for no reason some days to even walk into class. I cut class. Not to smoke pot or anything, but to walk home or sit in the bathroom hiding for a period or so, not knowing why I felt that way. What did I get? Internal suspension for cutting class. Not the administrations fault, they didn't know. They only thought I was another kid not giving a shit. So I sat with kids in ISS who started fist fights to get there. There are many misunderstandings with anxiety. And no one to blame most of the time...it just happens, it is complex. Some people may not even believe in it!

I am no doctor, this is all from my own experience, and some others I have spoken to. I hope this shines a bit of light on some who may not get it, or are unsure how to help. Sometimes, just being there and holding a persons hand is enough to help drown the fear. This goes for people of all issues, mental...physical..emotional!

There may be more posts like this. :)

Cut your blow drying time in half!

-❤- TOWEL & HAIRBRUSH COMBINED! -❤-

If you're like me, you seriously do not enjoy spending a chunk of your get-ready routine blowdrying your hair. ESPECIALLY in the summer when it's hot out; you just got out of the shower and the heat from the dryer is making you sweat all over again! Well, GOODY came out with this awesome product called the GOODY QuickStyle! The creative and helpful tool currently comes in two forms; the paddle brush for straight hair styling, and awesome detangling ( seriously if you have issues with knots get a paddle brush, girl! ) and the half round brush ( perfect for bangs ).

How does this product do what it claims?
It has absorbent microfiber bristles in between the regular ones that are present in your ordinary paddle brush. They are those crazy towel-like things you see ( that may or may not remind you of a sea creature or sponge! ). Those suckers soak up some of the bulk water from your hair, like a towel would. Brushing and drying at the same time--that's just one way it helps dry your hair faster!

How else does it help your hair dry faster?
The product itself has side vents on the frame. This created maximum air flow which helps dry your locks faster than a normal brush!
Another way it is different from any brush that I have ever felt in my hand---it's light as a feather. Nothing stinks as much as your wrist dying out on you before you even get to curling or straightening your hair after!

Do those towel-like fibers start to get all gross?
They haven't for me, and as a complete germ freak, I would be the first to notice if they got a little smelly or something. The microfiber that they are made of is actually Antimicrobial, made to keep the bristles fresh.

I use this every time I blow dry my hair now, it's such a cool invention; I almost wish that I thought of it :P
I got my paddle brush in an Influenster Voxbox, but you can buy yours at various drugstores! If you are not familiar with the site check it out here (It's free, you write reviews on products to build your score, then you have the chance to earn free products, like I did. )

I hope this little review was helpful, happy styling! :)

Disclaimer: It was NOT mandatory to make a blog post review on this product. I am personally a huge fan of it and wanted to share it with you :)!

Your Personal Shopper! Trending NOW:

  TRENDING - Print

I seriously love printed sweaters, they always look super cute! Just so happens that they are popping up everywhere this season! It may or not be a surprise to you that this year heart print is super popular, especially with the upcoming holiday on the 14th ;). The heart trend will carry on past Valentines day though, with the popular pastel springy colored tops that are making their way into stores offline and online.

Adorable sweater with mini heart print. Mint is very fresh this season, and pastel enough for spring, too! Wear it in winter with some tights, thighhighs, and tall boots, or with leggings and moccasins. Carry it into spring with some shorts and flats for those inbetween weather days!

\
Skull print is all over the place now a days! Huge trend. This oversized skull sweater is only TEN BUCKS on amazon, and it's perfect for these leftover cold months. Leggings or skinny jeans are perfect to complete this look.

I really love the look the model is rocking in this photo, a printed skull sweater with bright colored tights! Pair it with some combat boots and knee high socks and you've got an outfit. For extra detail and warmth especially, add a circle scarf or beanie.

For men, too!

I definitely see a trend with cat face printed sweaters this year. These are purrrfect :p

Buy #2!

Bow print is super ladylike! Play around with different styles of bow-printed sweaters and tops this season :D

           Don't forget printed LEGGINGS, TOO!

Stained Glass Heart Cookies!

  A Valentines Day Recipe!

This recipe is SUPER EASY :D

I suppose you can use any sort of cookie you'd like, but sugar cookies are the best for this recipe because they are light in color. You want the stained glass part to really stand out!

Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the cookies you are using. Whether it be an old recipe from your grandma, or a just-add-water recipe.

Cut out the cookies with a large heart cookie cutter.

Use a spatula to carefully transfer the cookies to the baking sheet. Remove the centers of the cookies with a smaller heart cookie cutter.

Here's the trick to make the stained glass effect! Place 2 Jolly Ranchers (Use two different colors in one for an awesome effect!) in the center of each heart

Bake according to your recipe's instructions, keep checking on them to see how they're coming out!

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely. To prevent sticking, place waxed paper between layers ocookies.

These are the items I bought for this recipe exactly:

Natural beauty on VDAY!

V-DAY LOOKS & HOW TO ACHIEVE THEM

Valentines day is starting to really creep up on us. Here are some natural makeup tips for whatever you may have planned this year! All products mentioned are clickable for easy location.

 ·The Looks

Blushing Beauty

Keep it simple and bring out your natural beauty by applying a light tinted moisturizer, or BB cream. I recommend Garnier's BB Cream. It's super lightweight, since it isn't a foundation but you can build it up where you need it for coverage. It sells for about 12 bucks at drugstores but Amazon sells all the shades for 9 !
Add a bit of a natural looking flush to your skin with a cheek stain. Benefit's Benetint blends right into the skin and compliments most skin colors. You won't even feel it there. You can also use it on your lips for a natural "just bitten" color. If you're not into that, just add a bit of clear gloss on your lips to polish them up! For the eyes, apply some mascara and white eyeliner. My favorite mascara of all time is L'oreal Carbon Black Mascara, a lot of celebrity makeup artists use it, it lengthens and thickens! The white eyeliner will open your eyes up :)

 Simply Natural

Maybe you don't like blush. Well, use that bb cream again as your base (and of course concealer if you need to cover any 'major' imperfections). Then, instead of flushing your face, contour it super lightly with a powder just a shade darker than your base color. I suggest using the Elf Angled Contour Brush. It says it's for blush but it works just as well to define your cheeks. If you've never contoured before, just make a fish face and start from the ear. Make a light stroke down from there, following the natural hollowed out parts of your cheek.  If you like to define your brows, do so with a thin brush, remember- don't go too dark! Coat your top lashes with mascara but skip your bottom lashes. Swipe a matte light golden brown eyeshadow on your lids for a very simple look, and if you want to add eyeliner, choose a taupe or brown. Finish off with a rosy nude lip color, like Revlon Rosy Nude.

Peachy Keen

Feeling festive for the holiday but don't want to look like a huge ball of red and pink?
Use natural peachy/coral blush that blends well with your skin tone. I love NARS Orgasm. Apply this with a fluffy blush brush on the apples of your cheeks. To add your V-Day spirit to your eyes, highlight your inner corners and browbone with a white eyeshadow. Then, swipe a matte rosy pink color on your lids. By using rosy/flesh based colors instead of shimmery neon/bright colors on your face, it looks much more natural. If you're the type who likes to darken your makeup look a bit, add a darker rosy color to the outer v of your eyes. Brown is also another option, just make sure to blend it out well. (Use one of the eyeshadow brush links below to buy a blending brush!) Mascara, liner, lipgloss, and you're done!

HAPPY LOVE DAY! :)
