Flowering Tea

Hi, my name is Dani and welcome to my blog!
My posts will be of many different subjects so be sure to check back for something you may find really interesting :)

Today, I am going to talk about something pretty cool. Flowering tea! If you are looking to change up your tea drinking experience, consider this cinematic tea experience.

As a previous employee of a local tea shop I had of course heard of this awesome tea creation, as we sold it there...but had never actually watched the process happen!
Well, friday night I went out to a new coffee shop here on Long Island, called Crazy Beans. They offer a bunch of other yummy things including snacks, breakfast (pancakes!), loose leaf teas and even some alcoholic beverages. The owner is SO sweet and they have live music nights and display local artists work!  I ordered the Jasmine Green Lychee Flowering Tea which was served to me in a cute wine glass. I will attach a photo below! It was super smooth and yummy. What makes this tea so special is the blooming effect. You start with a small bundle of wrapped up tea leaves with one or more flowers. When steeped, the bundle expands and unfurls in a process that emulates a blooming flower. ( Or as my boyfriend says, a space alien.) This magical treat is typically sourced from the Yunnan province of China, made by binding tea leaves and flowers together in a bulb and setting them to dry. It is imperative that the tea is served in a transparent container, so you can see the true beauty unfolding right before your eyes! Any types of tea leaves may be used to create these bundles, and the flowers most common are globe amaranth, chrysanthemum, jasmine, lily, hibiscus, and osmanthus. The flavors differ according to the types of teas, green tea leaves will give it a smooth or nutty base while white tea will have a very delicate and light one. The flowers will also influence the blend!
